NARRATION
“Have you tried it?”
When did it all begin?
It began half a century ago.
Isn’t this story too old?
Oldie but a goodie—
it may be old but is still good to hear.
Becoming a steady seller is more difficult than becoming a best seller.
Who says classical music is boring?
Isn’t being bias boring itself?
So, do you want me to tell you what I have tried?
Things everyone has dreamed of
but not everyone has attempted.
Why?
Because those things had to be done,
and there was no reason I shouldn’t be the one to do them.
So, I can tell you that I have tried it.
When the majority of the most people burned wood and coal for energy,
I became the first private oil refinery company in Korea.
When no one in the world predicted China’s economic growth,
I reclaimed land on Korea’s west coast, ushering in the “West Coast era” of development.
Determined not to waste a single drop of crude oil,
I introduced upgraded refining facilities for the first time in Korea.
I and established another upgraded plant,
Creating Korea’s largest land-based oil field.
I even acted upon the outlandish ideas of
introducing introduced a gas station brand and
reassemblinged the relics of an overseas refinery plant
into a better plant in Korea.
Setting up a gas station in the world’s most a secluded society
was a natural course of action for me
but struck the world as a surprise.
This need to constantly rise up to new challenges
has evolved into an indefatigable life force.
I reclaimed my ownership from foreign owners
and continued to generate surpluses
when all my rivals kept on generating deficits amid the plummeting oil price.
I import quality oil from diverse sources
to reduce the cost and maximize the value for clients worldwide.
Through partnerships with major companies in and outside Korea,
I have been launching a new plant every year.
That’s not all.
All the new plants I have created have been running faultlessly,
adding to my growing reputation as a global and comprehensive energy provider.
I have achieved the greatest number of accident-free working hours.
All my employees now donate 1% of their monthly wages to charity.
These small daily steps are
now changing the Korean culture.
Do you want me to tell you the secret key to my success?
It is to care as much for the people
as for technology.
So, have you tried it?
Of course, what I am proudest of
is not the series of successes
I have achieved.
Instead, I am proudest of the fact that,
even when the path ahead of me seemed difficult
or downright impossible to take,
I continued rising up to new challenges
because someone had to do it
and because it was the right thing to do.
Will I keep on trying?
Of course!
There are things we might know without trying,
but there is nothing we can gain without trying.
So, do you want to try it with me?
“Let’s try it!”
